Troubleshooting FIM: "Unable to Retrieve Configuration Parameters" When Configuring a Web Service Management Agent in FIM 2010

When trying to configure a Web services connector management agent in Forefront Identity Manager 2010 (FIM 2010) you receive the following error message:

*Synchronization Service Manager

Unable to retrieve configuration parameters from the extension:

The extension could not be loaded*

In this particular situation we were creating a web services management agent and had clicked on the connectivity tab.  If you click OK, you will not be able to see any of the projects that are in the extensions folder.

I resolved the issue by taking the following actions:

  1. Repair install of the Web Services Connector MSI file
  2. Re-opened the .wsconfig file with the web services configuration tool
  3. Insured that we were able to connect to the WSDL with the required authentication method
  4. Saved the file again without making any changes
  5. re-created the MA

This time the error did not come back and we were then able to see the sample and the other projects that the customer had configured.
