Event IDs 32422 and 32420: Hyper-V Replica apply log failure

Updated: 26 December 2013

Applies to:  Windows ServerĀ® 2012, Windows ServerĀ® 2012 R2

Event details

ID: 32422, 32420
Source: Hyper-V-VMMS
Message:   Hyper-V Replica failed to apply the log file onto the VHD for virtual machine <vmname>. (Virtual machine ID <vmID>) (VHD <vhdname>). An out-of-bounds write was encountered on the Replica virtual machine. The primary server VHD might have been resized. Ensure that the disk sizes of the Primary and Replica virtual machines are the same.

Possible Causes

  • This error is usually thrown when the primary VM's disk and the replica VM's disk are not of the same size. This causes the log to be applied on incorrect disk offsets on the replica virtual disks.
  • If the primary disk and the replica disk are of the same size, then it is possible that the log file has been corrupted leading to the application at incorrect offsets.

Resolution

Refer to the following links for a scenario-specific resolution:

  • Error during Failover to an older recovery point
  • Error during Resynchronization
  • Error during delta replication after resizing the virtual disk
