UAG services not starting after installing UAG Service Pack 4.

With the release of UAG Service Pack 4, a lot is administrators faced the issue where after installing Service Pack 4 and rebooting the UAG server some of the services like World Wide Web Publishing Service, Microsoft Forefront UAG Session Manager, Microsoft Forefront UAG File Sharing etc would not start.

This sometimes also resulting in different other issues like unable to open UAG console or unable to see the configuration and trunks on the UAG console.

To avoid the above issue please make sure you check and follow below instructions.

  1. UAG Service Pack 4 can be installed only on existing Forefront UAG servers with SP3 Rollup 1 (KB 2827350) already installed. 

  2. If SP3 Rollup 1 is already installed on the UAG server, make sure before installing SP4 you activate the configuration, synchronize it and perform an IISreset.

  3. After installing SP4, make sure you again activate the configuration, synchronize it and perform an IISreset. A server reboot is necessary after installing SP4.

Even though the above points seem really easy that is what caused the issue most of the times.
