Sharepoint Troubleshooting: The Remote server returned an error (503) server unavailable

Introduction

The Remote server returned an error (503) server unavailable (or) the HTTP service located at http://localhost:32843/SecurityTokenServiceApplication/securitytoken.svc is too busy.

Issue

When we try to browse the SharePoint site, we get the error “The Remote server returned an error (503) server unavailable” or the HTTP service located at http://localhost:32843/SecurityTokenServiceApplication/securitytoken.svc is too busy.

Solution

The issue occurs due to the Security Token service application pool. Follow the steps below to resolve the issue:

  1. Ensure that the password provided to the user name for Token application pool is correct.
  2. Ensure that the “security Token service application” is started.
