SharePoint vs. Yammer

Microsoft provides both SharePoint and Yammer services for internal, private networking within a company. A key difference is that Yammer is accessed over the internet whereas SharePoint which can be provided with either on-premise or over the cloud. So when should you use Yammer, SharePoint or both?  Here are some scenarios:

• • If you are on the cloud, you can get Yammer and then integrate your cloud SharePoint with Yammer.
  • If your company would like to use everything internal with nothing on cloud, you will want to use SharePoint social features.
  • If your company has a hybrid model where you have SharePoint on-prem and also on cloud, the decision should be made on a case-by-case basis.
  • If you don’t have any available SharePoint deployments on-premise or over the cloud, you can use Yammer
