SharePoint: Adding Microsoft Project .mpp files into Search Result

Issue

Microsoft Project (.mpp) extension is not supported by SharePoint OOTB.So if you upload Microsoft project file in SharePoint library.

You won't be able to search that file.

Workaround

  1. Go to search service application manage page > click on file types.
  2. Click on New file type and type .mpp ,click ok
  3. To confirm, you can check file type again to see if .mpp has been added to it the list or not.
  4. After adding new file type, perform a full crawl.
  5. Now you can search for Microsoft project files.

Note: if after full crawl  you are not able search result for .mpp files then you have to do an index reset and full crawl.
