Exchange 2016 Troubleshooting: A reboot from a previous installation is pending.

You come across the above error when you trying to either upgrade Exchange 2016 or Exchange 2019 and a simple reboot fixes it. However, the above error might keep coming up as seen below:

The install is checking a registry key that keeps triggering this. If you open up the Registry and Navigate to the following section:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager

There is a key called "PendingFileRenameOperations" that has information in. Simply double click this key and remove the data.

Once the key has no value, you can start your upgrade or install and it should not give you the error anymore.
