Connect a Microsoft account

Important

This is the Azure Sphere (Legacy) documentation. Azure Sphere (Legacy) is retiring on 27 September 2027, and users must migrate to Azure Sphere (Integrated) by this time. Use the Version selector located above the TOC to view the Azure Sphere (Integrated) documentation.

To use Azure Sphere (Legacy), you must have a Microsoft account. To find out whether you have one, or to create a new account, see One account for all things Microsoft.

That Microsoft account must be registered with Azure Sphere (Legacy). This is a one-time operation for any Microsoft account, so if you have previously used Azure Sphere (Legacy) with any tenant, then this is already complete. However, if you are using Azure Sphere (Legacy) for the first time, you must register yourself as a new user.

You can do this in one of two ways:

Once you have completed the steps above, you can sign in to Azure Sphere (Legacy) using azsphere login.

Note

Previously, a third way of acheiving registration was available, using the command azsphere register-user. This command has now been deprecated and will fail, you should use one of the two approaches above.
