What's new in Fundraising and Engagement November 1, 2024

Important

Fundraising and Engagement is being retired. Support for Fundraising and Engagement will end at 11:59 PM Pacific Time on December 31, 2026. For more information, go to What’s new in Fundraising and Engagement.

We updated Fundraising and Engagement for both Dynamics and Azure services to align with the recent Azure platform changes.

This release also introduces a bug fix for Fundraising and Engagement installation.

Item How it worked before How it works now
Azure migration to .NET 8.0 Fundraising and Engagement Services were based on .NET 6. The Azure platform is removing support for the previous .NET version used in Fundraising and Engagement Azure services. This updated version of Fundraising and Engagement is now based on .NET 8.0. All Azure functions now run on .NET isolated worker model.

For more information about the announcement of .NET deprecation, go to Retirement: Support for .NET 6 ends on 12 November 2024—upgrade your Azure Functions apps to .NET 8.

For more information about the migration of Azure Functions in-process model to isolated worker model: Migrate .NET function apps from the in-process model to the isolated worker model.
Fix for Fundraising and Engagement installations Failure to Install Fundraising and Engagement Solution due to orphan form layers. Fundraising and Engagement Solution failed to be imported with error message: System.ArgumentNullException: Value cannot be null. Parameter name: Could not retrieve the the parent (Type: 60 - ID base layer for the label with ID and label type code 8). The ComponentStateLoaderFactory returned rows, but the Base instance was null. This error is now fixed by updating the corresponding form so it doesn't collide with other components from the platform.

Important

Fundraising and Engagement is comprised of Dynamics 365 and Azure services. We highly recommend that nonprofit organizations and partners upgrade both the Fundraising and Engagement Dynamics 365 solution version 2.5.3.1 and Azure services to version 2.5.3.0 to take advantage of the latest improvements.

Fundraising and Engagement versions older than 2.6.3.0 are based on an older .NET version. The existing Fundraising and Engagement installations on these older versions will function as expected. This impacts only on new installations. However, you should consider the effects of being out of support with the Azure platform. These effects can include new features, security updates, or performance optimizations. We highly recommend upgrading to version 2.6.3.0. For more information about Azure versions, go to Azure Functions runtime versions overview.

Users with access to Fundraising and Engagement may work with sensitive data. We recommend that administrators and users enable multi-factor authentication to increase the security of their environment.
