This FAQ provides answers to frequently asked questions about the AI technology used in Query data with Copilot (preview) in Microsoft Sustainability Manager. It includes key considerations and details about how the AI is used, how it was tested and evaluated, and any specific limitations.

What does it mean to query data with Copilot?

Querying data with Copilot is a generative AI tool powered by Azure OpenAI within Microsoft Sustainability Manager that allows users to easily find the answers to questions related to their organization's data.

What can querying data with Copilot do?

Querying data with Copilot allows you to ask questions related to your reference data and several different processes within the tool, such as ingestions or calculations. For example, you can ask:

  • What organizational unit had the highest revenue in 2022?
  • How many facilities are there in the United States?
  • How many Mobile combustion calculation jobs ran in the last 30 days?

What is querying data with Copilot's intended uses?

The querying of Reference and process data within Microsoft Sustainability Manager intends for organizations to quickly find the right information for them—such as a GWP value or finding out which Organizational unit had the highest revenue in a particular year.

How was Copilot evaluated? What metrics are used to measure performance?

Copilot was evaluated through a thorough red teaming process, testing for common risks such as violence, self-harm, sexual content, and hate and fairness. In addition, Copilot’s performance was measured using extensive grounded response testing. It tests for coverage of intended uses to assess accuracy and the extent to which responses are grounded in reference data.

What are the limitations of querying data with Copilot? How can users minimize the impact of Copilot’s limitations when using the system?

Copilot isn't intended to perform analysis or build conclusions off of the data in Microsoft Sustainability Manager. Additionally, there's currently no support for querying elastic tables with Copilot. Examples of elastic tables include:

  • Activity data
  • Water data
  • Waste data
  • All emissions.

What operational factors and settings allow for effective and responsible use of querying data with Copilot?

You can turn Copilot on and off through the Power Apps admin settings. Copilot includes the following disclosure messaging and the ability to give feedback:
