Manage websites and SharePoint sites

Microsoft 365 Copilot for Service uses generative answers to find and present information from multiple sources, like external websites, without needing to create new topics.

After testing your copilot, you can publish it to instantly provide answers, help, and guidance to your agents.

Websites

You can provide websites you'd like the copilot to use for generating answers, such as SharePoint sites.

URL considerations

The URL you provide represents the scope of content that is used for generating responses. When specifying the website you want to use when you create your copilot or extending it, consider the type and structure of the URL.

Limitations

  • The URL can have up to two levels of depth, also called "subpaths," indicated by forward slashes /.

A trailing forward slash isn't included in the limit of two slashes. In the following examples, you see the URL with three, nontrailing slashes isn't valid.

Valid URL Not a valid URL
    www.contoso.com www.fabrikam.com/engines/rotary/dual-shaft
    www.fabrikam.com/engines/rotary
    www.fabrikam.com/engines/rotary/
  • If a URL redirects to another top-level site, content from both URLs isn't included in results.

For example, if www.fabrikam.com is redirected to www.contoso.fabrikam.com.

  • Generative answers won't generate responses from a URL that point to a website or require authentication.

For example, wikis, SharePoint sites, and other websites that require authentication:

    • fabrikam.visualstudio.com/project/_wiki
    • fabrikam.sharepoint.com

Subdomains under a top-level domain

Subdomains are used by generative answers, whereas other unassigned, top-level domains aren't used to generate copilot responses.

URL Are used Aren't used
www.fabrikam.com/engines/rotary www.fabrikam.com/engines/rotary/dual-shaft www.fabrikam.com/tools
www.fabrikam.com news.fabrikam.com
fabrikam.com www.fabrikam.com
news.fabrikam.com

Content moderation

Your copilot might generate nonsensical, irrelevant, or inappropriate answers if you use a forum or social media site as your URL. You can see all public and personal views in the list. Community content increases the risk of answers being rejected due to inappropriate, offensive, and malicious content.

Select Copilot content moderation to adjust the moderation level to control the relevance of the answers generated by the copilot. A higher moderation level indicates that the copilot’s answers are more relevant. A lower moderation level generates more responses, but the answers may be irrelevant or undesirable.

Don't use search engine URLs

Avoid using URLs for search engines, such as bing.com, because they don't provide useful responses.

SharePoint

You can add SharePoint as a data source for generating answers from the Content sources page.

Note

All files in the SharePoint are used as a datasource.

Make sure all the SharePoint files are relevant and appropriate for your Copilot for Service audience.

SharePoint and authentication

You can test AI content generation from SharePoint in the embedded chat in Copilot for Service.

Users need to authenticate to get AI generated content from SharePoint in both of these chats:

You can configure authentication by extending with Microsoft Copilot Studio. For more information, see Copilot Studio authentication.
