How to: View Status

Visual SourceSafe maintains detailed status information on every database item. Examples of status information are the identity of the user who has an item checked out, the latest version of the item, and the date of item creation.

Visual SourceSafe Explorer uses the Properties entry in the File menu for access to item status. The available tabs are:

  • General.   This tab shows general status information for any type of selected database item.

  • Deleted Items.   This tab provides a list of deleted items for the selected database item.

  • Links.   This tab shows the share links for the selected file.

  • Paths.   This tab shows the items that contain branched versions of the selected file.

Procedures

To view the status of an item:

  1. In Visual SourceSafe Explorer, select an item in the database.

  2. On the File menu, click Properties.

  3. Check the item status using the tabs described above.
