Advanced deployment options for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Server

Applies To: Dynamics 365 (on-premises), Dynamics CRM 2016

This topic describes advanced deployment options for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Server.

Use a local package to update Setup files

The update Setup feature lets you know if you have the latest updates to Microsoft Dynamics 365 before you run Setup. You can then tell Setup exactly where to find the MSP package that will be applied to the Setup files. This gives you more control over the update, like being able to apply the update package locally so you don’t need an Internet connection.

To specify the location, you’ll need to edit the XML configuration file Patch element, and then run Setup from the command prompt. More information: Use the command prompt to install Microsoft Dynamics Server 365

Add or remove server roles

Use either of these methods to easily add or remove server roles:

  • Run the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Server Setup Wizard to choose one or more server role groups or individual server roles. If Microsoft Dynamics 365 Server is already installed, you can use Programs and Features in Control Panel to add or remove server roles. For more information, see Microsoft Dynamics 365 server roles.

  • Configure an XML configuration file, and then run Setup at the command prompt to choose a server role group, or one or more individual server roles. For more information, see Install Microsoft Dynamics 365 Server roles using the command prompt.

Use Windows Powershell to perform deployment tasks

With Windows PowerShell you can perform many Microsoft Dynamics 365 deployment tasks. More information: Administer the deployment using Windows PowerShell.
