Project.ReadProject Method
Gets data for the specified project in the specified Project Server database.
Namespace: [Project Web service]

'Usage

Use = SoapBindingUse.Literal, ParameterStyle = SoapParameterStyle.Wrapped)]
public ProjectDataSet ReadProject(
Guid projectUid,
DataStoreEnum dataStore
)
Parameters
- projectUid
Type: System.Guid
The GUID of the project.
- dataStore
Type: [Project Web service].DataStoreEnum
Specifies the database in which the project data is located (Drafts, Published, or Archive).
Return Value
Type: [Project Web service].ProjectDataSet
Contains the full set of data for the specified project and entities within the project.
Remarks
ProjectDataSet.ProjectResourceRow in the returned ProjectDataSet may be an enterprise resource, as indicated by RES_IS_ENTERPRISE_RESOURCE. If it is an enterprise resource, data in this table may not reflect the current state of the resource on the enterprise level. Properties may be copied from the enterprise properties when the resource is added to the project. If the enterprise properties of the enterprise resource are changed later, they may not be fully reflected in data in this row. Likewise, changes made in this row will not be made to the enterprise properties and may be overwritten if the resource properties are refreshed from the enterprise data.
Project Server Permissions
Permission |
Description |
---|---|
Allows a user to open the project. Category permission. |
|
Allows a user to load the enterprise global template. |
Examples
Example for WCF: The ReadMyProjects example does the following:
Gets the GUID of the current user.
Reads the list of all projects visible to the user, by using ReadProjectStatus.
Reads each project in the list, by using ReadProject.
If the project owner matches the current user:
Copies the project row to a ProjectDataSet that has the same schema created by ReadProjectStatus.
Copies the project row to a second ProjectDataSet that has the complete schema.
Adds selected task data in the project to the TaskDataTable.
Writes each output ProjectDataSet to an XML file, for comparison of the schemas.
For example output of the exception handler, see the Code Example for WCF section in Project Server Error Codes.
Tip
If there are a large number of projects to read, a query of the Reporting database can be more efficient. Alternately, a PSI extension can do all of the calls to ReadProjectStatus and ReadProject on the server, and return just the final ProjectDataSet.
For information about using the code sample in a Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 project and creating an app.config file for configuration of the WCF endpoints, see Prerequisites for WCF-Based Code Samples.
