Issue: Queries are returning more documents than expected.

Summary: If a Microsoft FAST Search Server 2010 for SharePoint query is returning more documents than you expect to see, it could be because the documents are public for all users or that the user performing the query is a member of a group that has permissions to see the documents.

Symptom: Queries are returning more documents than expected.

Causes: This symptom can result from one or both of the following causes:

Cause 1: The documents are public or can be accessed by all users

Resolution: Ensure that the document permissions correspond to your intentions

The user and group permissions must match the security permissions of the indexed documents.

Cause 2: The user performing the query is a member of a group that has permissions to see the documents

Resolution: Ensure that group memberships do not expose the documents too widely

To determine the security permissions of the user performing the search, follow the guidance in FSA: Queries are returning fewer documents than expected (FAST Search Server 2010 for SharePoint), section ‘The group that the user belongs to does not have access to the documents’.
