Back up sites by using Data Protection Manager
You can use Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager 2007 (DPM) to create DPM protection groups that protect all of a SharePoint farm, including sites.
This topic does not provide detailed instructions for backing up SharePoint Products and Technologies with DPM, because it is a multi-step process that includes many procedures. For more information about how to configure DPM to back up SharePoint farms, see Configuring DPM 2007 (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=123464&clcid=0x409).
Recovering a SharePoint site
When recovering SharePoint Products and Technologies sites by using DPM, you must configure a recovery farm — a second farm that is only used to restore data. The recovery farm is not intended to be a live farm. For DPM, you must use a single server installation as a recovery farm.
For more information, see Create a recovery farm (Office SharePoint Server 2007).
When you restore a site, DPM restores the database to the recovery farm, extracts the site from the recovery farm, and imports it into the destination farm. During this process, DPM creates a temporary file on the recovery farm at a location that is specified in the Recovery Wizard. You should periodically delete the temporary files.
Recover a SharePoint site
In DPM Administrator Console, click Recovery on the navigation bar.
In the Protected data pane, expand the server that contains the farm you want to recover, and then click All Protected SharePoint Data.
The farm displays in the Recoverable item pane as server name\farm name.
Double-click the farm item.
The databases for the farm display in the Recoverable item pane.
Select a recovery point for the site that you want to recover, and then click Recover in the Actions pane.
On the Select Recovery Type page, select Recover to original site.
On the Specify Recovery Farm page, enter the information for the recovery farm you created in step 1, and then complete the wizard.
DPM recovers the site to the original farm.
