Access E-mail Sent to the Administrator

When you administer Windows EBS, you may want to send notifications or other e-mail messages to the mailbox for the built-in domain-administrator account. For example, you can configure Windows EBS to send alert notifications by e-mail to members of the EssentialBusinessServerAlerts distribution list, which by default includes the built-in domain-administrator account.

To receive administrative e-mail messages:

  • Verify that a mailbox is set up for the domain-administrator account.
  • Access e-mail messages by logging on to Microsoft Outlook® Web Access (or use an e-mail client such as Microsoft Outlook).

Note

If you created a new domain when you installed Windows EBS, a mailbox was automatically created for the built-in domain administrator account. However, if you installed Windows EBS in an existing domain by using an existing built-in domain administrator account, the account may not have a mailbox.

Note

You must use an account that is in the Domain Admins group to perform this procedure.

To verify that a mailbox is set up for the built-in domain administrator account

  1. Click Start, click All Programs, click Windows Essential Business Server, and then click Windows Essential Business Server Administration Console.

  2. Click the Users and Groups tab, and then click User Management.

  3. Click the name of the built-in domain administrator account, and then click Change user account properties in the tasks pane.

  4. In the User AccountProperties dialog box, click the Mailbox tab. Then do one of the following:

    • If a mailbox is already assigned to the domain-administrator account, verify the e-mail address and click OK.
    • If a mailbox is not assigned to the user account, select the Create a new mailbox checkbox and type an e-mail address in the text box. Then click OK.

To access e-mail with Outlook Web Access

  1. Log on to a client computer with any domain account.

  2. Open Windows Internet Explorer on the client computer, and then type https://MessagingServerName/owa, where MessagingServerName is the name of the Messaging Server.

  3. Log on to Outlook Web Access by using the domain-administrator credentials.
