How to: Resolve Data Validation Errors in Microsoft Excel or Microsoft Project
Microsoft Visual Studio Team System Office integration features can help you avoid entering values that are not supported by the work item fields. These integration features prevent most data validation errors. However, if your project file or spreadsheet contains unsupported values, the system adds a warning to the cell that contains the unsupported data.
Required Permissions
To perform these procedures, you must be a member of the Contributors group or have the View work items in this node and Edit work items in this node permissions set to Allow. For more information, see Team Foundation Server Permissions.
To resolve data validation errors
In Microsoft Excel or Microsoft Project, publish your changes to the Team Foundation Server.
For more information, see How to: Publish or Refresh Work Items in Microsoft Excel or Microsoft Project.
If there are data validation errors or conflicts, the Work Item Publishing Errors dialog box automatically appears.
For each work item listed with a data validation error, follow these steps.
Select the work item.
The Details pane displays the data validation error for the selected work item.
Select Edit Work Item to open the work item form and correct the value.
Values that must be corrected are highlighted.
Note
If the data validation error is unavailable on the work item form (for example, if you have not specified a work item type), the Edit Work Item button is unavailable, and you must correct the error in Microsoft Excel. For more information, see the following procedure, "To resolve data validation errors by using error checking."
Select Close to save your changes and close the work item form.
As you correct the data validation errors, the Status column will change to Ready to Publish. Click Publish to publish the work items that are ready to publish.
Note
The Team Foundation add-in will not publish any work items that still have data validation errors.
Click Close to close the Work Item Publishing Errors dialog box.
