How to: Copy Help Favorites to Another Computer

You can copy the Help topic links and search queries that are listed in the Help Favorites window to a file. This file can then be shared to another computer and imported into Visual Studio for use on that computer.

To copy Help Favorites to a file

  1. In Visual Studio, on the Tools menu, click Import and Export Settings.

  2. Select Export selected environment settings and then click Next.

  3. In Which settings do you want to export, click All settings to clear all of the check boxes.

  4. Expand Help Filters and Favorites and then select the Favorites check box.

  5. Click Next.

  6. In What do you want to name your settings file, enter a custom file name.

  7. In Store my settings file in this directory, specify a network share or a shared drive on the computer you intend to import the settings to.

  8. Click Finish and then click Close.

To import Help Favorites

  1. Copy the *.vssettings file containing your Help favorites to the computer you intend to use them on, or place the file on a network share accessible to that computer.

  2. Start Visual Studio.

  3. On the Tools menu, click Import and Export Settings.

  4. Select Import selected environment settings and then click Next.

  5. Decide whether or not to save your current settings, and then click Next.

  6. On the Choose a Collection of Settings to Import page, click Browse and then locate the *.vssettings file that contains the Help favorites information.

  7. Click Next.

  8. Click Finish.
