Source Control Migration Report Messages

The source control Migration Report has an Errors section and a Warnings section. This topic explains the messages that appear in these sections.

Errors

If there are errors during analysis or migration, some files or folders were not migrated. The errors do not mean that the migrated database is not usable. You can decide to ignore the files that were not migrated and start to use the migrated sources in Team Foundation version control.

File and folder migration errors are generated when the converter cannot migrate or analyze versions of files or folders because there is an unhandled case in the VSS Converter. This section contains information about the files and folders that were not migrated because the converter could not warn during analysis. Each error message gives a brief description of the error that was found during migration or analysis.

Warnings

This section contains information about the loss of information or modification of information because data in Visual SourceSafe cannot be migrated to Team Foundation version control for a known reason. During analysis, the converter warns about this potential loss of information, except for data loss warnings caused by Visual SourceSafe database corruption. When the Visual SourceSafe database is corrupted, you will not be able to retrieve the version through the VSS Explorer or VSS command-line. You can either take some action to prevent the information loss, or you can decide to accept the information loss and run the converter anyway.

Each warning message gives a brief description of the warnings that were found during migration or analysis, and contains a link to a document that contains details about the warning.

Data Loss Warnings

The following list shows the data loss warnings that the converter may experience during migration or analysis:

• Data loss due to folder move from source folder not under migration to destination folder under migration

• Data loss due to folder move from source folder under migration to destination folder not under migration

• Sharing is not supported in Team Foundation Source Control

• Versions or history of VSS Files and Folders not retrieved by Converter.

Other Warnings

The following table lists the other warnings that the converter may encounter during migration or analysis:

• Potential data loss due to time zone issues with the Visual SourceSafe Database under migration.

• TF227026: List of files currently checked out. The migration process does not preserve check-out information.

• Label names that will change as a result of migration.

• Files with VSS feature to keep latest version only.

• TF227013: Items were moved from a location that is not under the migration path. Either it is not mapped or the parent has been destroyed.

• TF227010: Item versions in the VSS repository are incorrect. This can be caused by a corrupted VSS repository. For example, an item was marked as deleted before it was marked as added to the repository.

• TF227011: A file was edited while it was in the deleted state. This can be caused by file sharing or time zone issues.

• TF227014: Some part of the path is not allowed in Team Foundation Server.

• TF227016: A solution that was bound to VSS will be migrated.

• TF227015: The versions of this file or folder are out of order. Users made changes to the database when they had different time settings on their client computers.
