Indexing Service is no longer supported as of Windows XP and is unavailable for use as of Windows 8. Instead, use Windows Search for client side search and Microsoft Search Server Express for server side search.

 

The MIME implementation for the IFilter interface (in mimefilt.dll) extracts text and property information from multipurpose Internet mail extension files with the extensions .eml and .nws. IIS includes a Network News Transfer Protocol (NNTP) server that saves files with the .nws extension. This filter enables indexing and querying NNTP messages with Indexing Service.
