Enrolling the CEPC for a Certificate

Windows CE includes the Enroll.exe enrollment tool that allows you to automatically request a certificate from the Certificate Authority and download it to your CEPC. For more information about how to use certificate enrollment in Windows CE .NET, see How to Enroll for a Certificate Using the Default Configuration.

To install computer certificates on your CEPC

  1. Boot your CEPC.

  2. Insert a PCMCIA adapter in the PCMCIA slot on your CEPC, and establish a wired connection to TESTSERVER. TESTSERVER functions as the certificate authority host.

  3. Be sure that the icon for your PCMCIA adapter appears on the taskbar. This icon indicates that you are connected to the network. If the icon does not appear, remove the PCMCIA adapter from the PCMCIA slot, and then reinsert it.

  4. On your CEPC, choose Start, and then choose Run.

  5. Type the following command in the Run field:

enroll -s<name of the domain controller>

For example, because TESTSERVER is the name of your domain controller, you would type the following command:

    enroll -sTESTSERVER

  6. Choose OK.

The Root Certificate Store dialog box appears.

  7. Choose Yes to add the certificate to the root store.

An Enrollment Tool dialog box appears, confirming that your certificate has been successfully added.

  8. Choose OK.

  9. To verify that the certificates have been successfully installed on your CEPC, choose Start, choose Settings, and then choose Control Panel. Double-click Certificates.

  10. In the drop-down box, choose My Certificates. A list of your personal digital certificates appears. To obtain additional information about the certificate, highlight the certificate you just installed and choose View.

After you have successfully downloaded the certificate to your CEPC you are ready to connect to the 8021Xaccess point through certificate-based authentication. For more information about how to connect your CEPC to an access point using certificates, see Testing Wireless Connectivity Using Certificates.
