Verifying the Tiny Kernel Image

When the Tiny Kernel image is built, you can verify that the image is intact and accessible from the Platform Builder Windows CE Target Control command line.

To verify that the Tiny Kernel image was built successfully

  1. From Platform Builder, verify that the CEPC is selected as a test device by opening the Configure Remote Connection dialog box.

    1. Choose Configure Remote Connection from the Target menu.
    2. In the Configure Remote Connection dialog box, choose Ethernet for the Download option.
    3. Choose Configure for the Download option and select the CEPC from the Available Devices list. You must restart the CEPC because the OS image does not download until it receives a BOOTME message from the CEPC. The CEPC sends BOOTME messages for only a short period of time.
    4. Choose OK and verify the same information for the Kernel Transport option.
    5. Choose OK.

  2. Select Download/Initialize from the Target menu.

  3. If the image boots successfully, the following information is displayed in the Windows CE Target Control window:

    Welcome to the Windows CE Shell. Type ? for help.

  4. Type gi proc at the command line. The gi proc command instructs the CE Shell to display information about the processes currently running on the shell.

    If information for NK.exe, Filesys.exe, and Shell.exe are displayed, the shell booted successfully and you are ready to add features to the Tiny Kernel.
