Tutorial Step 6: Localizing the OS Image for the CEPC

Windows CE offers you the ability to localize an OS image into several foreign languages. In this step, you localize the custom Enterprise Web Pad OS image into German for the locale of Germany.

To localize the OS image for the CEPC

  1. On the development workstation, from the Platform menu in the IDE, choose Settings.

  2. In the Settings For box, verify that CEPC: X86 Win32 (WCE x86)Debug is selected.

  3. Choose the Locale tab.

  4. From the Default Language box, choose German (Germany).

  5. To close the Platform Settings dialog box, choose OK.

  6. From the Build menu, choose Build Platform.

It may take as long as twenty minutes to build the OS image. When the build is complete, you see the following message: MYCEPCPLATFORM - 0 error(s), XX warning(s).

  7. Reboot the CEPC.

  8. On the development workstation, from the Target menu in the IDE, choose Download/Initialize.

The KITL Security Warning dialog box appears.

  9. For the purposes of this tutorial, choose Yes.

When the localized OS image finishes downloading to the CEPC, the CEPC initializes and displays the OS.

  10. Verify that the icons in the CEPC OS user interface (UI) are labeled in German.

  11. On the development workstation, from the Target menu in the IDE, choose Disconnect, and then choose OK.

  12. Verify that you want to stop all running services by choosing OK.

  13. Verify that you want to stop debugging now without disabling KdStub by choosing Yes

    Control returns to the IDE.

You have successfully created, built, and downloaded a localized OS image. You are now ready to create and build an application.
