Defining and Modifying Global Parameters

A parameter is a variable that provides information to a task within a job. Global parameters are defined on the DTM controller and can be used by any job.

To create a new global parameter

Switch to the Management Console window.
You can also open a new Management Console window by clicking Tools, and then clicking Management Console.
In the left pane of the Management Console window, expand Console Root, expand your Datastore, right-click Global Parameters, and then select New Global Parameter.
In the Add Parameter dialog box, type a name for the global parameter.
To provide a default value for the global parameter, enter the value in the Value field.
Type a description of what the global parameter represents in the Description field.
If you want the user to be able to override the value of this parameter when the job is scheduled, select the IsScheduleDisplay check box.
Click OK.
To modify the value of a global parameter

You can modify the value of a global parameter in two different ways. First, you can provide a new default value that will be used in all jobs that use the global parameter. Second, if you selected IsScheduleDisplay when you defined the global parameter, then you can override the value of the global parameter when you schedule a job, and the new value will be used only during the current execution of the job.

Switch to the Management Console window.
You can also open a new Management Console window by clicking Tools, and then clicking Management Console.
In the left pane of the Management Console window, expand Console Root, expand your Datastore, and then select Global Parameters.
A list of all of the global parameters that are defined on the DTM controller is displayed in the right pane.
In the right pane, double-click the global parameter whose default value you want to change.
In the Value field of the Edit Parameter dialog box, enter the new default value for the global parameter, and then click OK.
