Setting Operator Permissions
Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1
You can designate which user accounts can have operator permissions for the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) virtual server. After Windows user accounts are set up, you can grant permissions by selecting the account from a list. These permissions can be rescinded by removing the account from the list of virtual server operators.
Important
You must be a member of the Administrators group on the local computer to perform the following procedure or procedures. As a security best practice, log on to your computer by using an account that is not in the Administrators group, and then use the runas command to run IIS Manager as an administrator. At a command prompt, type runas /user:Administrative_AccountName "mmc %systemroot%\system32\inetsrv\iis.msc".
Procedures
To assign operator permissions
In IIS Manager, right-click the SMTP virtual server, and then click Properties.
Click the Security tab, and click Add.
Select a Windows user account, and then click OK. The selected account will now appear in Operators.
To remove operator permissions
In IIS Manager, right-click the SMTP virtual server, and then click Properties.
Click the Security tab, and in the Operators list, click the operator you want to remove.
Click Remove.
Note
You can also remove operator permissions from the Windows user accounts that are listed in Operators.
