  4. On the File menu, click Properties and verify that the Cluster service is running on the node on which you are performing the backup.

Important

  • It is highly recommended that you use the Backup utility as described in this procedure to perform regular backups of the cluster quorum. The cluster quorum contains information that is indispensible to the operation of the server cluster, for example, the current cluster configuration, application registry checkpoints, and cluster recovery log.

Notes

  • To perform this procedure, you must be a member of the Administrators group on the local computer, or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority. If the computer is joined to a domain, members of the Domain Admins group might be able to perform this procedure. As a security best practice, consider using Run as to perform this procedure.

  • To open Cluster Administrator, click Start, click Control Panel, double-click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Cluster Administrator.

  • To start Backup, click Start, point to All programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click Backup.

  • During backup, the following error may be displayed: "Completed with Skipped Files." This error may be ignored. The Mscs directory from the Cluster quorum drive is still successfully backed up.

Information about functional differences

  • Your server might function differently based on the version and edition of the operating system that is installed, your account permissions, and your menu settings. For more information, see Viewing Help on the Web.
