Hide a DFS root

To hide a DFS root

  1. Open Distributed File System.

  2. In the console tree, click the DFS root.

  3. On the Action menu, click Hide Root.

  4. A dialog box will appear, asking if you want to hide the root. Click Yes.

Notes

  • To perform this procedure, you must be a member of the Administrators group on the local computer, or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority. If the computer is joined to a domain, members of the Domain Admins group might be able to perform this procedure. As a security best practice, consider using Run as to perform this procedure.

  • To open DFS, click Start, click Control Panel, double-click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Distributed File System.

  • The root is removed from the DFS administration tool. The distributed file system itself is not affected. User access to the root is not affected by this procedure.
