Internet Explorer Maintenance Extension Technical Reference
Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1, Windows Server 2003 with SP2
Internet Explorer Maintenance Extension is used to manage Internet Explorer settings in a computing environment that uses Group Policy. The settings are grouped into the Browser User Interface, Connection Settings, Custom URLs, Security, and Program nodes.
Administrators can customize the appearance of the browser, preset and manage browser connection settings, set the default URLs displayed by the browser, and set the default programs used for each Internet service. Administrators can also preset the security zone, content rating, certification authority, and Authenticode settings.
The Internet Explorer Maintenance Extension of Group Policy is used to configure Internet Explorer only in domains using the Windows 2000 or Windows Server 2003 operating systems. It is possible to customize Internet Explorer before deployment and to manage Internet Explorer in other domain environments by using the Microsoft Internet Explorer Administration Kit (IEAK).
