Create a remote boot disk

Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1, Windows Server 2003 with SP2

To create a remote boot disk

Click Start, and then click Run.
Type the Universal Naming Convention (UNC) path of the Rbfg.exe utility, and then click OK.

Example:

\\Server_name\REMINST\Admin\I386\RBFG.exe
Insert a formatted disk into the disk drive.
Click Create Disk.
When the disk is ready, click Close, and then remove the disk from the disk drive.

Important

Use the remote boot disk on client computers that do not have a remote boot-enabled ROM. A computer on which you use the remote boot disk must have a Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI)-based network adapter supported by the Rbfg.exe utility. PC Card adapters, CardBus adapters, and adapters that are not PCI-based are not supported. You can view the list of supported network adapters by starting the Rbfg.exe utility (as described in this procedure) and clicking Adapter List.
Some network adapters supported by the Rbfg.exe utility might not be supported by the operating system you plan to install on the client computer. For more details, see the documentation for that operating system.
