Configuring DNS Client Settings

The way that you configure a particular Domain Name System (DNS) client in your network depends in part on the purpose of the client. In networks that have Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) deployed, most client computers are configured to receive most of their configuration from a DHCP server. Other clients, including workstations in networks without DHCP and servers with fixed addresses (for example, DNS servers and Active Directory domain controllers), are configured with fixed DNS server addresses and suffixes.
Using the procedures in this task, you can configure a DNS client to accomplish the following:
Use DHCP to obtain the client’s IP address and DNS client settings
Renew its client registration to update its IP address
Use a static IP address and DNS client settings
Change the primary DNS suffix
Configure separate DNS names for multiple network connections
