Microsoft iSCSI Software Target provides centralized, software-based and hardware-independent iSCSI disk subsystems in storage area networks (SANs). You can use iSCSI Software Target, which includes a Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in, to create iSCSI targets and iSCSI virtual disks. You can then use the Microsoft iSCSI Software Target console to manage all iSCSI targets and virtual disks created by using iSCSI Software Target.
Microsoft iSCSI Software Target 3.3 provides the following features:
Differencing Virtual Disk Support – Microsoft iSCSI Software Target 3.3 enables the use of iSCSI boot nodes in a failover cluster running Windows HPC Server 2008 R2. A new HPC hardware provider enables automatic setup of hundreds of differencing virtual hard disks to support booting hundreds of diskless HPC cluster nodes.
Dynamic Disk Support – Microsoft iSCSI Software Target 3.3 supports the configuration of iSCSI virtual disks as dynamic disks by using the iSCSI initiator.
Improved Scalability – Microsoft iSCSI Software Target 3.3 supports several hundred iSCSI initiators for the Windows HPC Server 2008 R2 environment.
Windows PowerShell Cmdlets –Microsoft iSCSI Software Target 3.3 includes a full set of Windows PowerShell cmdlets to enable task automation.
