What makes an EC successful?
A successful EC is one where the content shared is insightful, accurate and drives action.
When preparing for your EC, review responses to the Pre-EC questions from key stakeholders to make sure you’re aligning to their expectations. Explore the data looking at the Driver Impact report in the Glint platform. Study strengths, opportunities, trends in item scores, and associated comment data.
The success of the EC depends on several factors. Following certain steps helps ensure a smooth process and impactful session.
- Seek to understand the context within which the survey results exist. Ask stakeholders for input, sending ‘pre-EC’ questions via email. Review these stakeholder responses to understand what might be most important to focus on during your own analysis of results and in the EC presentation. Sample prep questions:
- Who will be attending the EC? Have they had access to the platform? What is their familiarity with the listening process thus far?
- In the initial review of results, where did you focus first and why? What are you proud of? Any disappointments?
- Which organizational initiatives are you focused on that these results inform? Is there one initiative that you’d like us to explore together?
- Are there specific attributes you are focusing on? (that is, emerging leaders, employees in an area of the organization where transformation has been rolled out, employees in a region that’s experiencing specific challenges)
- What are your goals for the meeting? What do you want attendees to walk away with (that is, what would make the EC a success)?
Note
These questions are just a few examples, so feel free to customize these prep questions based on your knowledge of the organization. The goal is to solicit input that helps focus your analysis and the content of the EC presentation.
Use the Executive Summary Report and the Driver Impact report in the Viva Glint platform to get a broad understanding of results. Looking at scores, their comparison to benchmark, and historical trend (if available) gives you an initial understanding of how the organization is performing. The Driver Impact report identifies the strongest drives of Engagement and surfaces the areas of strength and opportunity.
Use the filtering capability in the platform to explore the experiences and feedback of specific populations. For example, there may have been investments in Manager Development Programs, and an opportunity to assess the impact of those investments on the Manager Item (I would recommend my manager to others) for the demographic ‘individual contributors’ is an opportunity to invest in.
Create a presentation deck and save relevant reports in the system.
- Use the Executive Summary Report to understand an overview of results.
- Use the Driver Impact report to understand drivers of engagement.
- Use the Heat Map Report to explore strengths and opportunities for specific demographics.
- Use the Comments report to understand the nuance of what employees are experiencing and what they’re asking for. Focus on prescriptive comments for examples of specific changes employees recommend.
