What is printer registration?
Simply put, printer registration is the process of creating a "record" of a printer in Universal Print.
Before a printer can be managed using Universal Print, Universal Print must be made aware of that printer. This involves creating a device object for the printer in Microsoft Entra ID in addition to storing some printer information in Universal Print.
Universal Print groups the various steps in this process into one operation that the admin can easily perform.
Register printers with Universal Print
If a printer can communicate directly with Universal Print, printer registration is performed based on the steps provided by the printer manufacturer.
Printers that can't communicate directly with Universal Print require a connector to be registered. An admin can register printers using connector management.
See Registering printers using the Microsoft print connector for instructions.
