Finding Information in Help

There are several ways to access Help information in Microsoft Dynamics NAV.

F1 Key

In the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Development Environment, when you press the F1 key, you get Help that pertains to where you have positioned the pointer. For example, if the pointer is in Report Dataset Designer, then you will get information about that specific designer.

In the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Windows client,

Help Menu

In the development environment, you can locate the Help options on the Help menu.

The Help menu in the development environment contains the following options.

Help option Description

Developer and IT Pro Help

Opens a Compiled HTML Help (CHM) window that contains the Developer and IT Pro Help.

About Microsoft Dynamics NAV

Displays product information, including the version number of Microsoft Dynamics NAV.

In the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Windows client, you can locate the Help options on the Application menu Application Menu button in menu bar.

Microsoft Dynamics NAV Help

Opens a topic related to the window or page that you are working in.

Page Notes

Opens the OneNote page that has been shared across a company.

Provides information about all fields and values that are in the table on which a table or report is based.

Microsoft Dynamics NAV Help Server

When you access Help from the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Windows client or Microsoft Dynamics NAV Web client, Help opens in a browser that shows the content from the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Help Server. The Microsoft Dynamics NAV Help Server is a website with a high-level navigation in the left pane, and a Search box to help you find exactly what you are looking for.

The main pane shows the contents of the Help topic.

At the top of the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Help Server website, you can choose links that access the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Help on Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN) and other useful locations.
