Welcome! This is the team blog for the Anti-Malware product team. We're the team responsible for building Microsoft's antivirus and anti-spyware technology (along with anti-rootkit, anti-bot, and other stuff). We setup this blog some time back, but have all been pretty heads down on building our technology so it can get out and help customers, but we’re committed to making time to share some of this with you!

We already have two pieces of technology our technology shipping: the Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool, which helps to remove some of the most prevalent malware from a user's machine. We also are shipping a beta of the Windows AntiSpyware technology. We'll talk more about these in future blog posts. We also have a bunch of other cool stuff in the pipelines.

Allow me to introduce myself. I'm Jason Garms, the architect and group program manager for our anti-malware technology team. We'll be getting some short bios of myself, and other members of the team posted in coming posts. In brief, I work on the overall design of the technology that comes from the team, as well as manage the group of great program managers who work on this technology. I've been at Microsoft about 9.5 years, working on security technology and processes almost the entire time. One of the best parts about the work my team is doing right now is being able to make a huge impact in protecting our customers.

    Jason: Looking forward to watching this site develop. If i can ask for an additional section on EULA's that would be great. Today it seems that a whole lot of malware installed today is bundelled with so other stuff like "free" screen savers and file sharing programs. What user ever reads a EULA? What user ever fully understands whats in the EULA. Just a thought.

    Any plans for the anti-malware tools to detect and remove Sony's rootkit?

    Nice to see your team blogging, Jason. What's needed in the anti-malware forums are tools to work from outside of the OS. Removing rootkits and driver level infections are on the upswing. Cleaning a system in a hands on situation is a breeze compared to doing it online. Give it a whirl sometime ;)
