MSDN Flash - Visual Studio and taking on the world

After the last six weeks traveling around the country speaking, its great to be back in Wellington. Although the community is still pumping and the first ever South Island code camp is this weekend, so I won’t be sitting still long.

Toward the end of this month, Nigel will be travelling to Wellington and Christchurch to present some Unplugged events – focusing this month on developing for the web in Visual Studio 2008 later this month – so if you are keen to get your head around the improvements for web developers in Visual Studio2008, get along to those – keep an eye on the unplugged site for registration links later this week.

November 21 – Christchurch Convention Centre
November 22 – Microsoft, Auckland
November 23 – Microsoft, Wellington

I was in at ActionThis last week before they launched and Ed and Tim were showing me around the system. ActionThis is a new productivity application based on the Microsoft .Net stack that embraces Software+Services using a combination of web application, web services and building on top of Microsoft Office to extend the application right into where many of their target customers spend the majority of their day. You’ll hear more about ActionThis in the future, but they are now live (hey look – no beta tag) so go and take a look at what they’ve done – it is another New Zealand start up taking on the world based on Microsoft technology.

Finally, over the next week, I hope to start putting together some short screen casts on some of the new features in Visual Studio 2008, if you are interested in knowing more about what Visual Studio 2008 will bring you, then these should be useful. Each screen cast will be just a few minutes long and will explore one of the features of Visual Studio 2008 in a way that makes it easy to understand. Stay tuned to my blog for these.
