How to Fix a This version of Support Debugging Tool is incompatible Error

David Meego - Click for blog homepageThis is another issue which can come up every now and then when installing the Support Debugging Tool.

The error message below is displayed by the Support Debugging Tool just after logging into Microsoft Dynamics GP:

This version of Support Debugging Tool is incompatible with the current version of Microsoft Dynamics GP, please obtain the correct version.

This dialog is displayed when the version of the Support Debugging Tool which has been installed on the workstation does not match the version of Microsoft Dynamics GP. Once this issue has occurred, installing the correct Debugger.cnk file often will not fix the issue as a chunk file will not update over an existing dictionary if the version numbers don't match.

To resolve this issue, in the Microsoft Dynamics GP application folder: delete the Debugger.dic file and then re-install the Debugger.cnk and Debugger.pdf files of the matching version. Finally, launch Microsoft Dynamics GP and if asked, say Yes to include the new code to extract the dictionary with the correct version.

Note: There is no need to remove the Support Debugging Tool lines from the Dynamics.set launch file. Use Run as Administrator when launching Microsoft Dynamics GP if UAC (User Access Control) is enabled and the application folder is under Program Files.
