It's Official: Microsoft is buying Minecraft
Over the last couple of weeks, there have been a number of rumours floating around about Microsoft buying Minecraft for a very large sum of money.
Well as of a few hours ago, the Microsoft News Center and Mojang blog have confirmed the rumour as true:
- Microsoft: Minecraft to join Microsoft
- Mojang: Yes, we're being bought by Microsoft
If you are a parent, it is very likely that your children have already invested many hours into Minecraft on a variety of platforms.
I even play it on the Xbox with my sons and find it great fun (except when a creeper surprises you and blows up next to you).

Here is a statement from Microsoft CEO, Satya Nadella:
Gaming is a top activity spanning devices, from PCs and consoles to tablets and mobile, with billions of hours spent each year, Minecraft is more than a great game franchise – it is an open world platform, driven by a vibrant community we care deeply about, and rich with new opportunities for that community and for Microsoft.

Another fascinating decision by the overlords at Microsoft, along with their retrenchment of David Musgrave and their cancellation of the Dynamics certifications.
