Getting Ready for Release!
There are now 26 days until the release of Microsoft Dynamics Mobile 2008! The team is working really hard on completing the work and is looking forward to shipping this product. The main theme of the release is integration to Microsoft Dynamics NAV 4.0 SP3 and 5.0 SP1. With this expansion, we believe that we enable a lot more of our customers with the ability to start working with these cool things.
The last steps towards release is stabilization, where we focus on quality assurance and meeting all requirements of releasing software. We believe that we have a very stable product! We have chosen to incorporate Mobile Sales Tasklets into our Mobile Framework to make it complete. This way, we provide a toolset that lets you focus on only the Mobile Framework if you wish to develop your own applications. We are also conducting the last reviews of our documentation so that we can better provide help and support.
This last phase is very focused and the team is highly motivated as to get this out of the door. We will release on PartnerSource on March 31, 2008.
We have also started to work on the next release and I can share with you that we are very excited. We are currently in the scoping phase but the release will without a doubt broaden our implementation. We will keep you posted!

"We believe that we have a very stable product! We have chosen to incorporate Mobile Sales Tasklets into our Mobile Framework to make it complete." can you give more details on this? I am just starting to develop a custom app using the Mobile Framework. I have been trying to utilize some of the Mobile Sales tasklets such as the simple lists within my app to no avail. Are the current Mobile Sales tasklets bound to the mobile sales db structure?Anonymous

The simple list and all out other tasklets should in no way be bound to the Mobile Sales db. If you look at the Mobile Sales userrole.xml file and search for orchestrations that uses the simple list you should see that all SQL statements that the tasklet uses is exposed to you. This means that you can query any table or tables and display that data in the list view. You can even configure what data to show in the list view and the default column width. If you need to show additional data to the user you can configure the detail section to show extra details in one or more rows. Unfortunately the CTP version does not include tasklet documentation. You can expect this with the final release by the end of this month. In the mean time I suggest you look to the Mobile Sales userrole for examples of how you orchestrate and configure the different tasklets. Good luck.Anonymous

I wish the documentation was more thorough. I have been trying to get the simple list to work with my db on and off for a day or 2. I keep getting "key not found" or null reference exceptions and thats pretty much all the detail it gives me. The stack trace show the error being thrown inside the framework so I cannot debug. I copied the userrole.xml from the samples and just changed the sql statements to pull from my db. Will the new release expand on the documentation, hopefully on tasklet development and using the custom controls ? (I am still trying to figure out how to properly use the DetailSection control) I am really trying to leverage this toolkit, but I am about to go back to my own dynamics mobile architecture I am getting so frustrated.Anonymous

Sorry to hear that you at struggeling with the configuration. I assume that you are working with the prerelease version? Part of the news in this release is that we provide XML schemas that will help you validate your dataSettings configurations in Visual Studio 2005/2008. Please check that you have added the reference to the XML schema on the dataSettings element. Refer to the Mobile Sales userrole to ensure you have the right reference.Anonymous

One of the areas we have been spending a lot of time on for this release is better error handling in case the orchestrator has entered wrong configurations in the tasklets. I would like you to paste the part of the userrole you are having problems with into this blog. I really want to get a chance to see what the problem might be.Anonymous

Can you email me? (linked in my profile) I cannot post the xml here it seems. I would like to start a dialog with you if possible. I wish I was attending Convergence so I could ask some of these questions to the team in person. I have a 150+ user project I am working on and really want to leverage the dynamics mobile framework.
