Forecast Type

Specifies one of the following types when you create a production forecast entry:

  • Select the Sales Item option if you are entering a forecast for a sales item.

  • Select the Component option if you are entering a forecast for a component item.

    Note

A component can also be sold as a spare part. In this case, you select the Sales Item option to enter the forecast for the direct sale of the item as a spare part.

Important

The two forecast type options produce different results when the program calculates planning. When you use the Sales Item option, independent demand for the item nets against the forecast quantity when the program calculates item gross requirements. When you use the Component option, dependent demand for the item nets against the forecast quantity.

When you want to view the production forecast entries, the program filters them according to the forecast type option that you select and then displays the results in the Production Forecast and Production Forecast Entries windows.

  • Select the Sales Item option if you want the program to display production forecast entries for sales items only.

  • Select the Component option if you want the program to display entries for component items only.

  • Select Both if you want the program to display the sum of the entries for both sales items and component items.
