Remarks

When a user or group is added to a site, the user or group is the principal. The Principal object can represent one of the following types of users or groups:

  • Windows user

  • Windows group

  • Non-Windows user (provided through ASP.NET membership provider)

  • Non-Windows group (provided through ASP.NET roles provider)

  • SharePoint groups

Thread safety

Any public static (Shared in Visual Basic) members of this type are thread safe. Any instance members are not guaranteed to be thread safe.
