Before installing a DNS server, determine if the server is now a domain controller or whether it will be promoted to one later. |

Install the first DNS server on your network. If you want to install Active Directory, the Active Directory Installation Wizard will automatically prompt you to install a DNS server. Otherwise, you can install the DNS Server service as a Windows component. |
