Remove an Application Setting (IIS 7)

Remove an application setting when you no longer want to store key/value pairs as part of your configuration in the Web.config file. You can remove an application setting at a local level or you can remove an application setting that is inherited from a parent level.
Note
Removing a configuration setting removes the setting at the local level and from any child levels that inherit the setting.

To remove an application setting
You can perform this procedure by using the user interface (UI), by running Appcmd.exe commands in a command-line window, by editing configuration files directly, or by writing WMI scripts.
User Interface
To Use the UI
Open IIS Manager and navigate to the level you want to manage. For information about opening IIS Manager, see Open IIS Manager (IIS 7). For information about navigating to locations in the UI, see Navigation in IIS Manager (IIS 7).
In Features View, double-click Application Settings.
On the Application Settings page, select the application setting you want to remove, click Remove in the Actions pane, and then click Yes.
Command-line
To remove an application setting, use the following syntax:
appcmd set config /commit:MACHINE /section:appSettings /-"[key='string',value='string']"
The variable key string is the name of the application setting and the variable value string is the value for the application setting. For example, to remove an application setting for the application named "MyApplication", type the following at the command prompt, and then press Enter:
appcmd set config /commit:MACHINE /section:appSettings /-"[key='Application Name',value='MyApplication']"
