Expanded Use of Publishing Points

This version of Windows Media Services expands on the basic functionality of the publishing points provided in the previous release. Stations and programs are no longer needed. All streams are now managed through either broadcast or on-demand publishing points. You can use the Windows Media Services SDK to control and configure a publishing point programmatically. For example, you can:

  • Enable client connections to a publishing point.

  • Specify a password and user name that can be used during authentication.

  • Enable a wrapper playlist for a publishing point and specify a path to it.

  • Specify the name of a publishing point and a path to the content.

  • Retrieve a collection of authentication plug-ins.

  • Retrieve publishing point counters.

  • Create an XML file containing publishing point configuration data.

  • Enable a broadcast publishing point to start when the first client connects.

  • Enable an on-demand publishing point to cache content.

  • Retrieve the names of the media files that make up a multicast broadcast.

  • Retrieve counters that identify current and peak publishing point activity, and publishing point limits.
