Pointing Device Double-Click Behavior (Windows Embedded CE 6.0)

1/5/2010

This topic provides information on how to adjust the double-click behavior for a pointing device attached to a Windows Embedded CE powered thin client.

Overview

Double-click behavior describes the action of double-clicking a UI element and the system's interpretation of a double-click action on a region of the screen. When double-click behavior is optimized, the double-click action on a UI element will always result in the expected action.

To optimize double-click behavior on a thin client that is running the Windows Thin Client Shell, you can configure settings in the registry.

The HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Pen registry key configures settings for the pointing device. To optimize double-click behavior, you can configure the named values. The following table shows the named values.

Value Description

dblTapDist

Indicates the size of a reference rectangle constructed around the location of an on-screen click from a pointing device.

The default value for a thin client is 5 pixels.

dblTapTime

Indicates the time between clicks in a double-click action. The default value for a thin client is 256 milliseconds or 0xFF in hexadecimal format.

Note

These settings apply to the Windows Thin Client Shell only. These settings do not apply to a thin client that uses the Standard Shell. For information about how to configure pointing device double-click behavior on the Standard Shell, see Mouse Registry Settings.

Note

These settings also do not apply to mouse clicks sent to the server during a Terminal Services session.

User Configuration

Thin client users can also configure these settings based on their personal preferences. To update these settings, users must open Mouse icon in Control Panel and then double-click the grid box. You can provide this information to users in the user documentation you provide with the Windows Embedded CE powered thin client.
