Mainframe Migration to Azure - Portal
UPDATED: 2/13/19
Mainframe systems were once the norm, but most companies are now looking to the cloud to replace antiquated and expensive-to-maintain mainframes. Companies can realize substantial savings if they can migrate equivalent functionality to Microsoft Azure. In many cases, mainframe workloads can be replicated in Azure with no loss of functionality and without users even noticing changes in their underlying systems. The Mainframe Migration to Azure Portal provides links to all of our content on the topic, broken out by Concepts and Scenarios. New content is added as it becomes available.
First, here is a complete list of the content, followed by sections where select content is explained and highlighted in more detail.

NEW WHITEPAPER: Demystifying mainframe to Azure migration
Replicate mainframe workloads on Azure with no loss in functionality and more affordable operating costs. This paper, by Larry Mead of the AzureCAT team, covers the major IBM z/OS mainframe components alongside their Azure equivalents and is designed to help you complete the critical first step of moving to the cloud. Download the whitepaper.
Microsoft Azure Government cloud for mainframe applications - NEW 12/21/18
Planning an application migration is the ideal time to add value and agility to even well-established mainframe workloads. In this quick guide, Larry Mead of AzureCAT shows how United States government agencies and their partners can use Azure Government for mainframe applications—and migration may not be as difficult as you think. Download the whitepaper.

NEW Whitepaper: Deploy IBM Db2 pureScale on Azure
Many companies are migrating their mainframe-based database environments to the Azure cloud as a way to expand capacity, reduce costs, and maintain a steady operational cost structure. The AzureCAT and DMJ teams worked with an enterprise that rehosted their IBM Db2 environment running on z/OS to IBM Db2 pureScale on Azure. In this guide, Larry Mead, Benjamin Guinebertière, Alessandro Vozza, and Jonathon Frost describe the steps they took during the migration. Their findings were reviewed by members of the IBM Db2 pureScale team. Download the whitepaper.

Set up Micro Focus Enterprise Server 4.0 and Enterprise Developer 4.0 in Azure
Steve Read from AzureCAT explains how to set up Micro Focus Enterprise Server 4.0 and Micro Focus Enterprise Developer 4.0 on Azure to create a cost-effective development and test environment that’s easy to deploy and tear down. Read more.
Set up Micro Focus CICS BankDemo for Micro Focus Enterprise Developer 4.0 in Azure
Building on his previous post, Steve Read shows you how to set up the CICS BankDemo application. Learn how Micro Focus Enterprise Server and Developer operate and how you can manage and deploy an actual application complete with green screen terminals. By the end of the walkthrough, you're running a CICS application in Azure using Micro Focus Enterprise Server. Read more.
NEW E-BOOK: Install TmaxSoft OpenFrame on Azure - NEW 1/21/19
In this 44-page e-book, Steve Read (AzureCAT) and Manoj Aerroju (TmaxSoft) explain how to set up a TmaxSoft OpenFrame environment suitable for development, demos, testing, and production workloads. OpenFrame makes it easy to lift your existing mainframe assets and shift them to Azure. By moving your mainframe workloads to the cloud, you can modernize your infrastructure, benefit from the scale of Azure, and minimize drawbacks associated with mainframes. Download the whitepaper.
Set up IBM Z Development and Test Environment 12.0 in Azure
Steve Read from AzureCAT continues his coverage of mainframe workloads with a look at the x86-based IBM Z Development and Test Environment (IBM zD&T). This solution helps customers take advantage of the cost savings of the x86 platform for their less critical dev/test environments, and then push the updates back to the more expensive Z System Production environment. By the end of the lesson, you'll have the IBM zD&T management component installed. Read more.
Set up an Application Developers Controlled Distribution (ADCD) in IBM zD&T v12
In this post, Steve Read walks you through setting up an ADCD Instance in IBM zD&T. The IBM zD&T Environment is an emulation of the IBM z Series Architecture that runs on the x86/x64 platforms. It can host a variety of Z Series Operating Systems/Installations (also called Z Instances or Packages). Read more.
