Choose the permission or permissions marked as least privileged for this API. Use a higher privileged permission or permissions only if your app requires it. For details about delegated and application permissions, see Permission types. To learn more about these permissions, see the permissions reference.
Permission type
Least privileged permissions
Higher privileged permissions
Delegated (work or school account)
CustomSecAttributeDefinition.ReadWrite.All
Not available.
Delegated (personal Microsoft account)
Not supported.
Not supported.
Application
CustomSecAttributeDefinition.ReadWrite.All
Not available.
Important
In delegated scenarios with work or school accounts, the signed-in user must be assigned a supported Microsoft Entra role or a custom role with a supported role permission. Attribute Definition Administrator is the only privileged role supported for this operation.
By default, Global Administrator and other administrator roles don't have permissions to read, define, or assign custom security attributes.
HTTP request
POST /directory/customSecurityAttributeDefinitions/{customSecurityAttributeDefinitionId}/allowedValues
In the request body, supply a JSON representation of the allowedValue object.
The following table shows the properties that are required when you create an allowedValue.
Property
Type

id
String
Identifier for the predefined value. Can be up to 64 characters long and include Unicode characters. Can include spaces, but some special characters aren't allowed. Can't be changed later. Case sensitive. Required.
isActive
Boolean
Indicates whether the predefined value is active or deactivated. If set to false, this predefined value can't be assigned to any additional supported directory objects. Required.
Response
If successful, this method returns a 201 Created response code and an allowedValue object in the response body.
