You have several options for setting up your component database, depending on whether you want to set up a single user or a team environment

Whether you install the component database on the same or different computers, there are minimum hardware and operating system requirements for running Windows® Embedded Studio for Windows XP Embedded.

Before you install Windows XP Embedded:

  • Back up important data and applications stored on your computer.
  • Disable or uninstall antivirus applications that are running.
  • (Optional) Set up a free logical disk on your development system if you plan to deploy your run-time image on your development system for testing purposes.
  • Have your Windows XP Embedded installation package and product identification key available.

Make sure your development system meets the requirements shown in the following table:

Installation option Requirements

Component database on a single computer

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 SP 4 or later, or Windows XP Professional
  • 728 MHz CPU
  • 512 MB of RAM minimum, 1 gigabyte or more recommended
  • 3.43 GB free disk space required
  • CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive
  • VGA or higher resolution monitor, 1024 x 768 resolution recommended
  • Microsoft mouse or compatible pointing device

Shared component database in a team environment

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 SP4 or later recommended, or Windows XP Professional
  • 500 MHz CPU
  • 128 MB of RAM minimum, recommended 256 MB or more
  • 3.43 gigabyte (GB) free disk space required
  • Network connection
  • CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive
  • Microsoft mouse or compatible pointing device
