Adding Safe Mode Support

5/10/2007

You can add the Safe Mode Support component to allow users to boot in safe mode. When they boot the device and press F8, they will get three Safe Mode options:

  • Safe Mode (standard).
  • Safe Mode With Networking. This includes additional network-related drivers and services
  • Safe Mode With Command Prompt. This runs the command prompt application (Cmd.exe) as the shell instead of running Windows Explorer.

When they choose one of these modes, Windows loads only the drivers and services that are necessary for the computer to boot.

To add Safe Mode Support

  1. Run Target Designer.

  2. In the Search box, type Safe Mode Support, and then choose the Search icon.

The Safe Mode Support component is highlighted in the component browser.
